November
11th - HAZMAT, a crash, and RIT activation - Oh My!
Members
of Monroe Fire Co were kept busy today. First thing in the
morning, members of Co 25, along with other emergency services
personnel from the area, took part in a hands-on HAZMAT operations
refresher at the station. During the class, Engine 25 was
alerted by Headquarters for a reported motor vehicle accident
at the intersection of Heisey RD and W. Lisburn RD. Chief
25 arrived in the area and reported nothing found. Upon further
investigation, the accident was located in the area of Peffer
RD and Heisey RD and turned out to be a non-reportable accident
with no injuries. Chief 25 placed the box available and cancelled
EMS and the State Police. Later in the afternoon, following
the class, Engine 25 was alerted for a RIT (Rapid Intervention
Team) assignment in Dickinson Twp., in the 136-101 box. The
RIT team was requested by Chief 6 (Bretzman) after confirming
a working house fire at 15 Sandy Bottom RD. While en route,
E25's response was downgraded and the Engine was transferred
to Co 36's quarters.
Creek RD
Turns Treacherous
Nov.
9th -- What appeared to be a gentle Autumn
rain turned Creek RD treacherous today; resulting in
two motor vehicle accidents in less than two hours.
The
first accident involved a single vehicle, which lost
control on the roadway and ended up in the Yellow Breeches
Creek. Lt 125 happened upon the accident and notified
Headquarters of a fluid leak into the creek and the
need for fire police.
Shortly
after units cleared the first crash, Headquarters received
a flurry of 9-1-1 calls for a 2 vehicle accident at
York RD and Creek RD with a vehicle blocking the RR
tracks.
Norfolk
Southern was notified of the accident and, as a result,
suspended rail traffic until the railroad was clear. |
