Crews labored for about
30 minutes to free the driver, who was transported by ambulance
to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The incident presented
many challenges including the extended extrication, the possibility
of fatigue due to high heat and humidity, a nearby road closure
which meant extended response times for some units, and the constant
threat of structural collapse.
As a result, numerous
companies were requested to the scene to assist. In addition, Command
25 (Mixell) requested the county's technical rescue (TROT) team
and animal rescue (CART) teams. The TROT team helped to shore up
the structure, while the CART team helped transport the cattle,
to another carrier. It was later report one of the cattle had to
be euthanized due to injuries received in the accident.
Crews remained on the
scene for until 16:38 hours.
All crews worked extrememly
well together. Company 25 would like to extend its gratitude to
all who came out to assist with the incident.

report to Monroefire.net:
At 12:40, Headquarters
alerted Engines 25, 35, 136; Truck 36, Rescue 40; and Tankers 25,
33, York 65 to reported vehicle accident with entrapment and the
vehicle into a structure.
Chief 225 (Farrell)
and E25 arrived on the scene to find a truck pulling trailer into
A/D corner of structure. In addition, Command 25 confirmed the driver
was confined to vehicle.
Command was transferred
to David D. Heckert and Chief 225 assumed Operations.
Vehicle stabilization
and extrication took approximately 30 minutes with the patient removed
out of passenger door. Due to hill on side of property, crews used
Little Giant ladders and stokes basket to remove patient before
transferring to EMS litter. Patient was transported by ground by
Ambulance 64 (Dillsburg) to Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Power
to structure was secured and water was shut off due to baseboard
radiators leaking at damaged area of structure.
Cave-In 40 was
called to scene for evaluation of structural integrity of building
and assistance in removal of vehicle from structure. CART Team was
activated for 3 cattle on trailer, but was eventually canceled after
the farmer had been notified and cattle were transferred to another
trailer brought on-site.
Upon arrival of
Cave-In 40 and evaluation of structure, TROT Team (R28, R27, U30,
U18) was activated for manpower to stabilize structure. An additional
three engine companies (YC64, 23 and 41) were called for manpower
to assist in removal of debris and large amount of personal belongings
in basement to allow for stabilization of first floor joist.
Rehab 40 was called
to scene and Ambulance 91 (Yellow Breeches EMS) was held on scene
for rehab evaluation of personnel.
Upon completion
of structural stabilization, plastic sheeting was fastened to exterior
of damaged area to protect from weather.
The last
units cleared the scene at 16:38.
