May 16 - Shortly after 08:00 hours Engine 25 and Rescue 27 were alerted to a reported motor vehicle accident at the intersection of West Lisburn RD and Boiling Springs RD. At the time of dispatch, headquarters advised on vehicle was overturned.

Chief 225 (Farrell) and Engine 25 went responding shortly after dispatch at which time headquarters advised C225 one vehicle reportedly had heavy entrapment and LifeLion (Hershey) was en route.

Upon arrival on the scene, crews found two vehicles including the overturned vehicle and one vehicle into a nearby residence. The driver of the vehicle which struck and damaged the residence was removed from the vehicle by a passerby. Unfortunately, the driver of the overturned vehicle, a local 19-year old male, was deceased on arrival of emergency crews. Both vehicle only had one occupant.

Rescue 27 established a landing zone for Lifelion at the scene. In addition, personnel from Rescue 27, along with Engine 25 and the homeowners, helped to secure utilities to the structure.

West Shore EMS treated the female driver of the other vehicle involved, who was then airlifted to Hershey Medical Center where she was listed in serious condition later that day.

Fire Police from Mechanicsburg and Company 33 assisted Monroe with traffic control while the Cumberland County Coroner's office and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted their investigations.

Mini-Pumper 25's Holmatro Combo tool was used to extricate the deceased from the vehicle following the scene investigation.

This accident is the second fatal accident at the intersection this year, the first occuring in February 2007.

New Information May 18th
  • According to the Carlisle Sentinel, the condition of the second driver has been upgraded from serious to fair condition.

  • A second fatal accident in as many days occured in the 800 block of West Lisburn RD in South Middleton Twp. The accident occured a few miles west of the accident on May 16. Company 25 did not respond to this accident. However, its proximity to the previous accident makes it noteworthy. More about that accident can be read here.
